As a follow up to my last email on this issue and on a request from a couple district chairs including myself, we have sought to have some additional awareness training for everyone involved in hockey, including player, parents, coaches, official and executive reps.
HEO minor has created a new online video that talked about maltreatment in hockey, and specifically Rule 11.4, Discrimination.
I am requesting that you review this video and share it with your coaches, parents and players as soon as possible. Discriminatory slurs are no longer part of this game. We all collectively are responsible to educate everyone on this and remove these unwanted behaviours. As content maybe sensitive to younger aged players, all u13 and up players should be familiar with the videos content.
We also have a duty to report and take necessary disciplinary actions when this occurs. Although rule 11.4 is only applicable during on ice activities, any other discriminatory acts that are reported will be heard at a D3 hearing.
