Good day all,
It is with great sadness that both RMHA and TCMHA have made a decision last night to put an end to our season. Sunday March 28th will be our last day of the season. This is not an easy decision but it is a well calculated one. We also understand that this is happening very quickly but, this is what our season has been like. This season has been nothing like we have seen before and we have constantly had to revise our plan at so many levels. With about 3 weeks left, we decided that for the good of both associations as well as for all parents and kids, this is for the best.
For complete transparency, here are the reason why this decision was made:
1. With other hockey associations' decision of shutting down, some arenas are not guaranteeing ice time availability anymore.
2. With the fact that we will be moving to the Red zone, this would mean that our ice times would only allow for no more than 9 players on the ice. This would not be financially possible as the ratio of players versus ice time cost.
3. Finally, the most important reason would be that with the rising number of cases in our region, we don't want to put our kids, parents and anybody else involved in the direct risk of getting sick.
Robin and I are extremely proud of both our executive committees for working on this season and making the best of it. We are also very happy and proud of the fact that we have had no COVID related issues. This was not attained with luck; it was the result of all the hard work that our members, players and you, the parents, did to stick with our protocols. Our District is very proud of what you have all accomplished and we are very thankful for what you have done for us. We have a great community and as usual, we can all rise to the challenge.
I want to personally thank all of the executive members for all of their devotion and commitment. With a strong team, we can tackle anything. I also want to recognize all of the volunteers. This includes the coaches, assistant coaches, trainers and our parent reps for helping us through this season. You guys can be proud of yourselves for making this season a success within the tough situation that was in front of you. You made the most of it and the kids are very grateful for it. I was witness to hundreds, if not thousands of smiles at the door, in the room and on the ice. This is exactly why we do it.
On the logistic side of it, we are going to be working on reimbursing families for the time that we did not use. Our treasurers will be working on this and we will come up with a plan of action and we will reach out to update you all.
Make note that the Annual general meeting (AGM) will be taking place this Spring but the date as yet to be decided. We invite you to take part in it and share your thoughts as well as ask any questions that you may have. We will also keep you guys updated on this.
I also want to take this opportunity to recognize a very special man. Marc "Popcorn" Viau, one of our U15 head coaches, said that this season will have been his last season as a coach. Marc has been involved with RMHA for the last 40 years and has given countless hours to this community. We are very sad to see him leave this role and we want to thank him from the bottom of our heart for everything he has done for all those years. He has also been very involved with the executive committee for numerous years. On behalf of Rockland Minor Hockey and the Nats, Thank you Marc. We hope you can enjoy your "retirement" and we also wish to tell you that you will always be welcome to come and see us.
On behalf of myself and all of the RMHA committee, we want to wish everyone all the best and we really hope that you will be coming back for next year. Whether we are dealing with a different kind of season or not, we will rise to the challenge once again to make sure that our kids are back on the ice . Bonne journée à tous,
C'est avec une grande tristesse que RMHA et TCMHA ont pris la décision hier soir de mettre fin à notre saison. Dimanche le 28 Mars sera notre dernière journée de hockey. Ce n'est pas une décision facile, mais c'est une décision bien calculée. Nous comprenons que tout ça arrive très vite mais, le tout va avec le style de saison que nous avons eu. Cette saison n'a rien de comparable à ce que nous avons vu auparavant et nous avons constamment dû revoir notre plan à tant de niveaux. Avec environ 3 semaines à faire, nous avons décidé que pour le bien des deux associations ainsi que pour tous les parents et enfants, c'est pour le meilleur de tous impliqués.
Les raisons pour lesquelles nous avons pris cette décision sont les suivantes:
1. Avec la décision d'autres associations de hockey de fermer pour l'annee, certaines arénas ne garantissent plus la disponibilité du temps de glace.
2. Étant donné que nous allons bouger dans la zone rouge, cela signifierait que nos temps de glace ne permettraient pas plus de 9 joueurs sur la glace. Cela ne serait pas financièrement possible en ce qui concerne le ratio joueurs / temps de glace.
3. Enfin, la raison la plus importante serait qu'avec l'augmentation du nombre de cas dans notre région, nous ne voulons pas mettre nos enfants, nos parents et quiconque le risque direct de tomber malade.
Robin et moi sommes extrêmement fiers de nos deux comités exécutifs pour avoir travaillé sur cette saison et en avoir tiré le meilleur. Nous sommes également très heureux et fiers du fait que nous n'ayons eu aucun problème lié au COVID. Cela n'a pas été atteint avec de la chance; c'était le résultat de tout le travail acharné que nos membres, nos joueurs et vous, les parents, avez fait pour respecter nos protocoles. Notre district est très fier de ce que vous avez tous accompli et nous sommes très reconnaissants de ce que vous avez fait pour nous. Nous avons une grande communauté et comme d'habitude, nous pouvons tous relever le défi.
Je tiens à remercier personnellement tous les membres de notre comité pour tout leur dévouement et leur engagement. Avec une équipe solide, nous pouvons tout réussir. Je veux également remercier tous les bénévoles. Cela comprend les entraîneurs, les entraîneurs adjoints, les soigneurs et nos représentants des parents pour nous avoir aidés tout au long de cette saison. Vous pouvez être fiers de vous d'avoir fait de cette saison un succès dans la situation difficile qui vous attendait. Vous en avez profité et les enfants vous en sont très reconnaissants. J'ai été témoin de centaines, voire de milliers de sourires à la porte, dans les chambres et sur la glace. C'est exactement pourquoi nous le faisons.
Sur le plan logistique, nous allons travailler au remboursement des familles pour le temps que nous n'avons pas utilisé. Nos trésoriers y travaillent et nous proposerons un plan d'action à cet effet et nous vous tiendrons au courant.
Veuillez noter que l'assemblée générale annuelle (AGA) aura lieu ce printemps, mais la date n'a pas encore été décidée. Nous vous invitons à y participer et à partager vos réflexions ainsi qu'à poser toutes les questions que vous pourriez avoir. Nous vous tiendrons également informés à ce sujet.
Je veux également profiter de cette occasion pour rendre hommage à un homme très spécial. Marc "Popcorn" Viau, l'un de nos entraîneurs-chefs U15, a déclaré que cette saison aura été sa dernière saison en tant qu'entraîneur. Marc est impliqué avec RMHA depuis 40 ans et a consacré d'innombrables heures à cette communauté. Nous sommes très tristes de le voir quitter ce poste et nous tenons à le remercier du fond du cœur pour tout ce qu'il a fait pendant toutes ces années. Il est également très impliqué au sein du comité exécutif depuis de nombreuses années. Au nom de l'Association de hockey mineur de Rockland et des Nats, merci Marc. Nous espérons que tu pourras profiter de ta «retraite» et nous souhaitons également te dire que tu seras toujours le bienvenu pour venir nous voir.
En mon nom et au nom de tous les membres du comité RMHA, nous souhaitons à tous le meilleur et nous espérons vraiment que vous reviendrez l'année prochaine. Que nous soyons confrontés à une saison différente ou non, nous relèverons le défi une fois de plus pour nous assurer que nos enfants sont de retour sur la glace.
