Air horns will not be permitted at any minor hockey game within District 3. If a spectator is caught with one, he/she will be ask to put it away or leave the game. Anyone not following the rules will be suspended until a hearing with the District.

On the weekend of the 14th of Novembea very sad situation took place amongst the spectators at a game within the District. The fans for the team that was winning by more than 7 goals kept blowing an air horn. An incident eruptedin the stands between adults and a minor. This was done in front of all the players who were playing a good, clean game (penalty wise).

The District wants spectators to encourage their kids but at the same time they must maintain respect for the other team. Coaches are asked to be respectful when games are lopsided and to try different tactics such as changing the position of their players or requiring them to make more passes before shooting on the net. In addition, associations are informed not to display the scores on the scoreboards after a 7 goal differential. All these actions/step are taken to help prevent emotions from spectators and players erupting into a violent situation.

We encourage you to keep clapping and cheering; however, you are not to use anything that makes a loud sound such as air horn every time the team scores or the opposing goalie stops the puck. This kind of behavior shows lack of respect and poor sportsmanship towards the losing team.

Also remember that loud noises over 85 dcb are harmful for the hearing so let's not be part of this problem.

Therefore in order to prevent further incidents, promote respect and sportsmanship and to protect ones hearing, the District will not allow any air horns at any District 3 game (House, Rep B and A/AA) and events effective December 1st, 2015.

Here are a few examples of what are deemed to be air horns:
